We moved in after defeating a particularly rampant mould infestation and decided after that, clean and white would be our overall colour. First because it's bright and cheery and second because any mould trying to make a comeback will be highly visible. The mould hasn't resurfaced and now I am taking note of the toll white walls and trim may be taking on the cleaning. At the end of the day though, I have to say that it works. All colours get dirty over time, but white shows it up well and I am always on top of it because it takes seconds to wipe away. I'll admit it's gotten a little ahead of me now while there are veggies to freeze, jams to prepare and occasional glorious sunny days to admire, but white is here to stay, at least in my home.
Grey is another colour which alone or paired with white gives a crisp clean look and is cool in summer and golden warm in the glow of winter light, fires and candles. They also both look stunning decked with traditional Holiday colours be they Christmas, Halloween, Kwanzaa, Hannukah or whatever you celebrate, because the beauty of white and grey is they don't really clash with anything so you can add garish throw pillows in oranges and reds, soft spring violets and pinks, sunny yellows...
So, if you're ready for a change from your current colour try the old standards then add some Autumn foliage colours for the coming season or go punk rock with your theme. You can change it at a whim with throws, cushions and knick-knacks. And remember it's easy to clean and easy to touch up (also amite cheaper than custom paints).
